The side blades caught my knuckle on a hard parry and honestly saved me a bruise. They also come in handy during lock-ups when the other guy isn't expecting a second point of contact. Balance feels great in hand overall.
Wasn't sure I'd actually use the cross guard, but during a lock-up those side blades caught my opponent's blade and gave me the opening I needed. The hilt feels solid in hand too, no wobble at all.
The side blades on this cross guard caught me off guard in a good way — they block a hit and then give you something to work with in a bind. Hilt feels solid in hand without being clunky.
